President's Report

Thank you to all the members of BOMA Columbus for supporting the association through the past year.  Your energy and enthusiasm is so appreciated and myself and the Board of Governors want you to know how important each of you are to us.  As I close out my term as President I invite all of you to think about participating on a committee, running for the board next year and attending a few events so you get more out of your membership.  I know we are all busier than ever but this is your membership organization and your participation makes it much better.

I'd like to thank our Annual sponsors Alex Gleim of gBrands, Jaimie Ottery of Muirfield Energy, Maureen Hayes of TNT Powerwashing and George Reiss of Division 7 Roofing.  These partners have supported BOMA Columbus during the year and we do appreciate them.

Of course there are many others to thank as well for support during our Golf Outing, TOBY Awards and Vendor Expo.  We cannot have such successful events without you!

I have enjoyed serving you over the past few years and will continue to support BOMA Columbus in whatever way I can and I invite you all to do the same!

Thank you and Happy Holidays!

Oh what a night BOMA Columbus had at the celebration of the annual TOBY Awards!  This our 4th event was by far the largest in attendance - over 140 people with 7 buildings being honored.  The winners represented some of our finest commercial real estate companies and their staff of seasoned professional managers and technicians.  Guests mingled at the lovely Ivory Room and dined on delicious appetizers and a gourmet meal from the folks at Cameron Mitchell.

In addition to the 7 buildings two other awards were given for The Professional Member of The Year and the Associate Member of The Year.  Bob Sutton of Ohio Equities, won for the Professional Member. Bob has been very active in BOMA Columbus chairing the legislative committee, representing BOMA Columbus at several International meetings and also serving on the BOMA Ohio committee.   He has served on the board and continues to offer his support as needed.  Bob was unable to attend the event and will be given his award at the January luncheon.

The Associate Member of The Year was bestowed to Tish Weisenstein of the St. Moritz company.  Tish has for a few years been involved in emergency prepardness on the local and international level.  She has served on the BOMA International Emergency Preparedness Committee offering advice and knowledge gained from her state efforts with FEMA and Homeland Security.  She was recognized this year at the BOMA Winter Business Meeting for establishing an "MOU" Memorandum of Understanding for BOMA Columbus.  Several other BOMA affiliates have contacted Tish to gain knowledge on how to create an MOU for their BOMA.  Tish was not able to attend last evenings award program so she will receive her award at the January luncheon with Bob.

Our last award of the evening is one that was established last year honoring those companies that have supported BOMA through membership, participation on the board and numerous committees, through sponsorship and also through enrolling their staff in the RPA programs.

The first year we honored two such deserving companies, Continental Realty and Ohio Equities.  This year the board had an easy decision to make when selecting this years honoree Nationwide Corporate Real Estate.   A few years ago Nationwide wanted to enter the TOBY awards and asked for help from BOMA Columbus to give them guidance.  You can say that they started us on the way to our TOBY program.

Since then they have been an avid supporter entering the competition every year on the local level, regional level and have won there to go on and compete at the International Level three years in a row.  This recognition is certainly a nod to their management team and their professionalism at every level.  Also of note is the number of local entries that are Nationwide buildings that continue to win locally.

Their support is not only in participation but also in their sponsorship commitments.  They have helped BOMA Columbus have the type of award program it can truly be proud of.  Our thanks to Holly Fuller and JD Flaherty, we are pleased to have their company as the recipent of the 2015 Sustaining Partner Award.
