BOMA TOBY Awards and Gala a Huge Success!

Last night the Renaissance hotel ballroom was the place to be for BOMA members and friends!  A record attendance of 172 guests enjoyed an evening of networking and dining while watching their peers be awarded for acheiving building excellence.  A record 8 entries this year resulted in 5 first place wins and 2 honorable mentions.

Aimee Washburn, BOMA Board President and Cathy Frederick, TOBY Committee Chair emceed the program.  First place trophies were taken home by Bonnie Henry for 1103 and 1105 Schrock, Megan Ray for Town Center, Rick Sargent for McCampbell Hall, Oren Snell for Alliance Data and Debi Pair for Continental Plaza.  Honorable mentions went to Amanda Abraham for Parkcenter and Rick Sargent for Care Point of Lewis Center.  Congratulations to all of you for this achievement!

In other special awards Aimee D'Amore was honored as the Property Manager of the Year.  Aimee has devoted her time to BOMA as a board and committee member, a teacher for our RPA classes and her committee work for the North Central Region of BOMA and service on the BOMA International Industrial committee. She stated you get out of BOMA what you put in to BOMA!

Associate Member of the Year was awarded to not one but two dynamic ladies who are taking BOMA to new heights in our industry with their marketing efforts!  Lisa Davis of Acorn and Alex Gleim of gBrands have taken a sleepy marketing committee to a new level with their goals for BOMA Columbus.  Congratulations to both for a job well done! By the way you can view some of the event photos on our Facebook page which they created, manage and promote!!

Last and most special was a tribute to Lynda Gildea who says she is retiring January 13, 2017.  Apparently she has been threatening to retire for the last few years so look to see if she is on the job January 14th and tell her to go and have some fun!  Bill Carleton and Sherrie Sauline gave heartfelt tributes to their dear friend and mentor.  Lynda expressed how much she has enjoyed her relationships with BOMA members through the years and how it has enriched her life personally and professionally. She challenged each and every one of us to use the organization to its fullest potential so we can enjoy the same rewards she has.  Lynda was given a standing ovation by the crowd for a job very well done!

The TOBY event has grown since it's humble beginnings in 2012.  After several years with no program, Janine Roffe's wish, as she departed her service from the BOMA board was to bring back TOBY!  As it happened about the same time Holly Fuller at Nationwide was very interested in submitting their corporate headquarters in the competition.  A happy coincidence you bet and the BOMA Columbus TOBY's were on.  Throw in an enthusiastic John Achevich and Kyle Hartman and the planning was set!

That first year we had maybe two or three entries and 50 or 60 guests at Brio Polaris.  Last night was our largest event to date both in building entries and attendance!  The BOMA board and TOBY Committee thanks everyone for their support it means so much!

And speaking of thanks we can't say enough about our sponsors for this event!

At the top of the list our thanks to Ken Parker, Tom Woodruff and LaShawn Hill of ServPro for hosting the cocktail hour!  These guys are always the first to respond when the request goes out for sponsors so thank them next time you see them!

Our Benefactor sponsors were Alliance Data, Colliers International, GCA Services, Georgia Pacific, King Business Interiors, Nationwide, Speer and the Wexner Medical Center.

Our Friend sponsors were Acorn Distributors, Allied Universal, Ambius, Division 7 Roofing, DRK & Co. Realtors/Triangle Commercial Properties LLC, EMI, FiberCare, Grass Groomers Inc., Ohio Heating & Refrigeration and Palmetto Construction Services LLC.

There will be another competition next year so property managers if you haven't entered before now is the time to think about it!  It is a great team building experience and overview of your property!  Why not be awarded next year for all your hard work?  You deserve it!
